It Was Written è il secondo album in studio del rapper americano Nas, pubblicato originariamente il 2 luglio 1996 dalla Columbia Records. Dopo il modesto successo commerciale del suo album di debutto Illmatic (1994), Nas ha perseguito un suono più curato e mainstream per It Was Written. Prodotto in gran parte da Trackmasters, si allontana dall'estetica grezza e underground del debutto e abbraccia temi mafiosi e gangsta. Il disco segna anche la prima apparizione del supergruppo di Nas The Firm, di breve durata, con i rapper Foxy Brown, AZ e Cormega.
